Only 20% Will Get Results? Really?

Do you watch ‘This Morning’ ever?

Apparently, as I did not see it for myself, Dr Michael Mosley (the brain behind the 5:2 diet) told the TV show that exercise can cause you to gain weight. He also suggested that the ‘Endorphins’ can not effect our mood.

Do you think that this is true?

His reason behind weight gain I can appreciate.

He believes too many people go to the gym and follow it with a treat or reward which is a dangerous mentality especially if you are wishing to lose weight.

This I do actually agree with. We have discussed this before and you should try to avoid using a workout as a reason to replenish calories. Sure you need to eat afterwards but eat the RIGHT food, not undo all the effort with junk!

His study followed 100 people who exercised for 30 minutes a day 5 days per week.

Using measurements on their heart and lungs, only 20% showed significant fitness improvement.

What they didn’t explain was whether the other 80% have any improvements over this time, or were there any health issues that could have reduced the speed in which their fitness would have developed?

We can all take what we want from this ‘study’.

Some of you reading it may have used it as a concrete excuse to carry on doing nothing as you now believe it will make no difference. Really! You know you are only kidding yourself.

Others may think ‘what a load of nonsense’! Like me by the way!

That’s not to say some of his point weren’t valid but what it creates is a valid reason to not change or to give up changes that people have worked hard to make.

It doesn’t help inspire a nation that has an obesity rate increasing at an alarming speed!

Heres what it comes down to….

Calories IN must EQUAL Energy OUT to MAINTAIN your weight.

ENERGY OUT must be HIGHER than CALORIES IN to LOSE weight.

Cheat by eating junk or too big a portion size and you won’t see significant results. Simple!

So why not challenge his theory. Start regular exercise and eat correctly and see the impact it has on your body!

We don’t think you will ever be disappointed!

Oh and as for his theory on exercising not being able to help boost your mood….who has ever felt angry or sad after a workout?! I Always feel great………
