January Newsletter

Welcome to this month's newsletter and to all our new subscribers, some of whom will be new to our bootcamp sessions. What a fantastic first week back last week for Boxercise and Bootcamp. Attendance was high and effort levels were at a max as people returned after a couple of weeks rest or joined us for the first time.
We all start the year with good intentions, including myself but can quickly lose motivation especially as we are in the middle of winter. It's easy to stay in and watch TV than go out into the cold and sometimes wet weather but if you make a start now, by the time the spring comes you will start to notice a difference. This can be applied to anything. For me I have set a few personal goals. The main one being a better, more confident swimmer. I started adult swimming lessons which started last week with the goal of being able to keep up with my children in the pool by the time we go on holiday in May. This year I am also going to run my 50th Parkrun (currently on 46) by Easter and try to improve my 5K run times by attending a running group. A couple of big events are in the diary (details of the marathon below) with one or two scattered in between. Now that they are written down in this newsletter, I feel that I have somebody that I am accountable to. What about you? Do you have somebody to hold you accountable? What will keep you focused this year? My three top tips for keeping to your goals are
1. Keep them simple and achievable and write them down with a date to be achieved by
2. Tell somebody what your goals are and ask them to keep you accountable - eg. a weekly or monthly check in with you to see how you are progressing
3. Think of what you will reward yourself with if you achieve your goal(s)

I will keep you posted on how I'm getting on with my goals, I would love to hear about yours. Feel free to email me at karen@bodyblastbootcamp.co.uk.

What's in store for 2020?

The start of the year is always a good time to think about the next 12 months and as a business owner an important time to see how I can move forward and make changes and improvements to make bootcamp a better experience for all involved and to reach and therefore benefit more people in the community.
Here are some of the ideas and plans I have for this year:
  • Website update to include a members only page with home workouts to access
  • A Gosport Boxercise class
  • Kickboxercise class
  • Beginners Bootcamp
  • Daytime 8 week summer bootcamp
  • More specific nutrition support for members
  • Short interim emails between monthly Newsletters
Stay subscribed to the newsletter to be the first to hear about any upcoming courses, events and general updates.

Bootcamp Charity Event 2020

Have you ever thought about doing a marathon? No? I don't blame you. It's never something that has appealed to me for various reasons. Running for 4 to 5 hours non stop, all the time needed to put in to training, the stress it puts your body under etc. What if though you could WALK a marathon? What if you could walk a marathon in the countryside and raise money for charity at the same time? Well this is exactly what some of us will be doing on 7th June this year for Naomi House. If that still seems a bit too far then there is the option to join in half way and complete a half marathon instead. Either distance is not easy, even if it is just walking you're going to be on your feet for 7-8 hours but If you are up for a challenge and would like to join us along The Clarendon Way from Winchester to Salisbury then here is the link with all the information. https://www.naomihouse.org.uk/index.php/clarendon2020
There is currently 20% off the entry fee throughout January. I will set up a Just Giving page in the next few weeks so all our sponsorship money can be in one place. It would be great to have a team of us to help motivate and support each other throughout the day.

Bootcamp and Boxercise

We kicked off January with a return to Boxercise on Sunday mornings at Catisfield Memorial Hall. This will run until the end of March with a break for half term in between. There will be no sessions after this course until September so if you missed out this time be sure to book on for the next course when it becomes available.

Our bootcamps have been very busy in the first week back with a record number on Wednesday at Portchester of 18 (and that was with a few people missing)! A total of 20 people signed up across all our bootcamps for our January offer which is amazing. I hope you all enjoyed your first session with us.

This year I would like to invest in some more equipment especially as we have two bootcamps running on the same day. If there is any piece of equipment you would like to use more of or something that we don't currently have but you would like us to then drop me a line with your suggestion. Unfortunately I am limited by the space in my Fiesta and garage so no large tyres or big barrels I'm afraid!

Bootcamp social events

We've had some very enjoyable social events towards the end of last year so I would like to make these a more regular thing, perhaps once a quarter. If anyone has any ideas of what we could do then I am open to suggestions so please email them to me and I will see what I can organise.

Event list 2020

Signing up to an event is a great way to keep motivated and is even more fun when done with others. If you want to join them then sign up using the links below or if you have one to add to the list drop me an email and let me know. I would be particularly interested in any obstacle course races where we can work as a team. You don't have to be the fittest or strongest to take part in an event, it's all about maybe just stepping out of your comfort zone and having a go. Don't forget your bootcampers and myself are always there to support you both before and during the event itself.
