December Newsletter

Celebrating achievements of 2019

Welcome to this bumper December edition of our newsletter. Make sure you have a cuppa and a good 5 minutes to spare as this is a long one!
So the end of the year is almost upon us (where has it gone?!). Although I would encourage you to look to the future and what 2020 might bring, it's also a perfect time to reflect on the last 12 months and celebrate all that you have achieved no matter how big or small the accomplishment. This is exactly what I have asked my bootcampers to do in relation to their health and fitness as it's important to recognise what we have done so we can push and motivate ourselves to the next level. All our bootcampers have done brilliantly this year of which a few have been willing to share their success. These will be put forward to our members to vote who they think should be Bootcamper of the Year 2019. Here are the nominees and their stories...

Lizzy, Fareham bootcamper
"I joined when I was at an all time low in terms of motivation and confidence when it came to exercise. I'm not a self motivator when it comes to fitness, I need someone to guide me, give me some reassurance and make me safe in an odd kind of way. I've found that in bucketfuls not just with you as our brilliant instructor but also in my fellow bootcampers. I'm fitter, stronger (both physically and mentally) and more confident in myself and my body. I've learnt to push myself and enjoy pushing myself - the 100 rep challenge with the kettlebells back in the summer stands out in my head! I can do a proper push up (some of the time!) and was pretty excited when my change in work pattern allowed me to get to three classes a week so I could challenge myself further."
Lizzy
Kirsten, Portchester bootcamper
"This year my focus has been on my running. I wanted to work on my core strength so signed up for the plank challenge. I decided to push it and do the 10 minute challenge. I can feel the difference all the work has made to my core which has made me want to continue and improve next year.
I also wanted to improve my running after my injury. I signed up for proper races and did a 10k and 5 miler. I’d enjoyed them but wanted to really challenge myself so signed up for a half marathon. I felt very emotional on the day with the sense of personal achievement. Over the last 3 years there have been days where I’ve been in so much pain I couldn’t walk let alone run so being able to do that distance has helped slay some personal demons. My injury will never go but I’ve learnt to control it rather than it controlling me."

Suzanne, Gosport bootcamper
"I feel great since joining boot camp! I have noticed an improvement in my fitness and feel much stronger and more toned! I can do a full press up and burpees now too . I have also been running too and feel that bootcamp has really helped my stamina and endurance."

Suzanne
Donna and Matt, Fareham bootcampers
"We attended our Boot Camp taster session on the 23 rd of July and joined Slimming World on the 30th July. 4 months down the line we are both physically fitter, and Matt currently weighs in at 18 stone 8 ½ lbs (starting weight 23st 6lb) and Donna Weighs in at 14 stone 10lbs (starting weight 18st 3lb). Since the beginning of our journey there has been no turning back, we eat much healthier and have become much fitter, we have also signed up to do the 5k GSR next year."
donna
Caroline and Gill, Portchester bootcampers
"We decided to try your bootcamp after seeing an ad on facebook to try some sessions for £10. back in January this year. We have tried various classes, gyms and even tried running over the last few years but never maintained the motivation -it was very easy to miss a class or faff about at the gym but not actually achieve very much.
We really enjoyed our first few sessions with Louise at Portchester, we even liked working out in the cold chilly weather and decided to sign up for another month. We soon realised that we enjoyed these weekly sessions - we felt better after a session and we felt fitter and stronger as time went on. We enjoy the fact that each week is different and we can definitely say that we are now fitter and stronger than when we started (although we may not look it!)."
gill and caroline
Janine, Fareham bootcamper
"Since starting with your lovely group at the beginning of July, I have almost achieved my ultimate weight loss goal. I’ve lost 18lb so far which is more than I anticipated I would lose in this amount of time I was working on just wanting to lose a stone initially. My core strength is def improving too which is helping my back & my general fitness is much improved. I’m so pleased I found you & joined, I’m loving it!"

Janine
For me personally it's these success stories which are my wins for the year. I can look back and know that I have helped people to become a healthier and more importantly happier version of themselves. We have many people come and go over the year but these are the ones who have stuck at it and got the results. Even for those that don't stay, particularly the ones that joined our beginners bootcamp back in the summer, many of them always thank me for helping them to get back into exercise which they never thought they would do. With so many other bootcamps and budget gyms in the area I am pleased to have so many loyal clients who make the sessions a joy to teach and I thank you all for your continued support. I look forward to continuing to motivate and push all of you, and hopefully many new bootcampers, in 2020.

Bootcamper Event Participation

Following a fun evening down at Gunwharf for our Christmas social event on Friday a few of us took part in the annual Santa fun run in Portsmouth on Sunday morning at Lakeside. With varying distances to choose from there was a good mix amongst us of doing the 1 mile, 5K and 10K distances with a couple of us completing the full 4 events (a 2K run on the Saturday) and being rewarded with 5 Christmas themed medals.

Event list 2019/20

Signing up to an event is a great way to keep motivated and is even more fun when done with others. If you want to join them then sign up using the links below or if you have one to add to the list drop me an email and let me know. I would be particularly interested in any obstacle course races where we can work as a team. You don't have to be the fittest or strongest to take part in an event, it's all about maybe just stepping out of your comfort zone and having a go. Don't forget your bootcampers and myself are always there to support you both before and during the event itself.
