With the recent warm spell it now feels that summer isn’t too far away (fingers crossed!).

Have you been working out over the winter so that you’re “beach body” ready for the summer? Or have you only just been thinking about trying to lose those excess pounds now that the evenings are lighter and the weather is generally better?

It’s never too late to try and lose weight, anytime is a good time so why not start now? The first step is always the hardest. Maybe you don’t know where to start? A good place is with your diet. What changes can you make to improve it? Is it starting to have breakfast in the morning, cutting out those Friday night take-aways or reducing the number of beers or glasses of wine you have in the evening? Make one change each week that you think you can stick to.

You need a calorie deficit to lose weight so you need to expend more calories than you consume. If you have no idea how many calories you are consuming a good tool to use is the My Fitness Pal App which is free to download. This will also calculate your ideal intake based on your current weight and where you want to get to. It’s not 100% accurate but will give you a good idea of whether you are eating far too much or even maybe not enough.

Everyone knows that exercise also plays it’s part in weight loss helping you to reach your goal faster than diet alone. But what type of exercise should you do? Ideally exercises that will help you to build lean muscle and torch fat. Exercises that use multiple muscle groups (compound exercises) will help do this eg squats and press ups. Using body weight will suffice if you can’t get access to any weights.

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is also a great way to burn calories not only during the workout but after too. Try to incorporate at least one HIIT workout a week into your routine.

Our bootcamps and Metafit sessions incorporate compound exercises and HIIT workouts making them perfect to help with weight loss and improving general fitness. We also run classes for Mums during the day who are trying to shift the baby weight. If group exercise doesn't appeal then one to one training is also on offer.
