September Newsletter

So the summer is winding down, the new school year has started and the Great British Bake Off and Strictly are back on our screens. This time of year we suddenly start thinking where has the year gone? Only 4 months until the next one starts (which if you think about it is still a third of the year but somehow doesn't seem like any time at all).
Are you feeling positive about what you have achieved so far this year and can honestly say that by 31st December 2019 you will have made the best effort in trying to reach your health and fitness goals? Or are you kicking yourself because you started the year off with good intentions but kept putting it off and now 9 months in feel it's too late?
Well that isn't the case. Use the end of the year still as a deadline as we tend to work better when under a little pressure but don't think that you can leave it until the last minute as when it comes to health and fitness, results don't happen overnight.
Start reviewing your goals. Are they realistic for the time available? How can they be tweaked so that you will still notice a difference it just might not be as big as planned back in January.
Don't be hard or too critical of yourself. Recognise where you might have gone wrong, what obstacles may have got in your way and think about how to mitigate for these this time round.
If you've made some progress this year then think about all your wins to date - have you lost some weight, feel fitter, happier in yourself, can run faster or lift heavier weights than you started with?
Set your goals for the next few months. Make sure they are achievable, not too scary looking but still challenging and quantifiable. then make a plan. Nominate somebody to hold you accountable who can check in with you every couple of weeks to see how you are getting on.
And remember, always be kind to yourself, and keep picking yourself back up. You’re trying your best, and your determination will pay dividends.

What's been happening in sessions last month?

August was a surprisingly busy month considering it was the holiday season. We had 11 new joiners across all our bootcamp locations so a big welcome to them. If you haven't joined our private Facebook group yet then make sure to do so as this will give you a constant update on sessions, events and general information.

We also had a few leave us temporarily in August due to their own hectic summer schedule so we look forward to welcoming them back now that the kids have gone back to school and summer is now coming to an end.

Don't forget that as of October we will be back at Privett Park, Gosport on a Monday and Wednesday as Stokes Bay will become too dark and exposed to the elements over the winter period.

Metafit has now come to an end on a Friday morning. Due to low attendance it was the right time to bring it to an end. If I can find a better time and location then it may start up again in the future but for now I would like to focus my time and effort on other ventures.

Bootcamper Event Participation

August saw the usual members taking part in events. So we had the hilly Wickham 10K completed by myself and Annette and then the Meon Valley 5K and 10K completed by Kirsten, Dawn, Annette and myself. Annette also completed the whole 5 races of the Gosport Summer 5K series. Well done Annette.
Our Portchester instructor, Louise, took part in a cycling sportive riding 102 miles in one day in the Yorkshire hills. She's the one in blue in the photo. Awesome achievement Louise.

Beef Koftas

Now that the evenings are starting feel a little cooler it's a good time to be spicing up our meals. Here is a tasty low fat recipe that's quick to make so perfect as a weekday dinner.

1 pack of ready to eat Puy lentils
1 heaped teaspoon Garam masala
400g lean beef mince
3 ripe tomatoes
1 inch of fresh ginger
2 spring onions
1 fresh red chilli
1 bunch fresh coriander
1 tsp turmeric
1 tsp runny honey
2 heaped tsps. Rogan josh curry paste
½ tin light coconut milk
1 lemon

Preparation method
Put the meat and lentils in a bowl with the garam masala, salt and pepper, mix together.
Divide in half and then make each half into 6 fat finger shaped ‘sausages’ (use wet hands to stop the meat sticking).
Place in a hot pan and turn when golden
In a liquidiser/blender place all the remaining ingredients and blend into a sauce until smooth.
Once the meat is cooked pour the sauce over it and reduce until it thickens.
Serve with cous cous or a portion of brown rice.

Boxercise course

As mentioned in the last newsletter I will be running an 8 week Boxercise course starting on Sunday 29th September from 9:30am to 10:30am at Catisfield Memorial Hall in Fareham. Thank you to those that took the early bird offer and signed up. There are now only 5 places remaining on the course so drop me an email if you would like to book on. All abilities are welcome whether you have ever put on a pair of boxing gloves or not. In case you didn't know, a class can only be called Boxercise if it is run by a registered Boxercise instructor. That way you can ensure that what you are being taught is correct and will reduce your risk of injury. I will be attending a refresher course the week before we start so I can make sure I am up to date with my coaching ready to pass on safe and effective punching drills and combinations to participants.

Corporate events

After successfully delivering a talk and fitness class to employees at Fugro Global Marine Ltd in Wallingford near Oxford and more locally in Portchester I would welcome the opportunity to speak at more venues to provide health and fitness tips to those who work in a corporate environment. Email me to find out more about what I can offer and how it can benefit your employees and in turn your business karen@bodyblastbootcamp.co.uk

Event list 2019

Signing up to an event is a great way to keep motivated and is even more fun when done with others. If you want to join them then sign up using the links below or if you have one to add to the list drop me an email and let me know. I would be particularly interested in any obstacle course races where we can work as a team. You don't have to be the fittest or strongest to take part in an event, it's all about maybe just stepping out of your comfort zone and having a go. Don't forget your bootcampers and myself are always there to support you both before and during the event itself.
